Don't lose your confidence - it is your means of a great reward

Nothing steals your confidence more than ridicule. During a period of difficulty in my life I was being publicly humiliated on national television and in national newspapers. I wanted to hide in shame, but that's exactly what I would not do. My confidence was shattered. I felt I had been violated. In spite of it all, I still believed that something good would come out of the mess. Even though I did not have confidence necessarily in myself, I had confidence that things would turn out okay if I just learned to live one more day, to believe for one more moment. I said to myself, ‘Pat, you’ve hit rock bottom, but the only way to look is up.’ 

You see, your attitude towards your failure or your disappointment determines your attitude after it. More than anything else, it is important to believe you have a purpose in life. Have confidence in that. You may think you have missed the mark, but as Dave Anderson says, ‘Failure is the hallmark of success’. Failure can be the starting point of a new venture. When a baby learns to walk, it has to fall down a lot to learn the new skill. When a pole-vaulter finally misses in competition, it shows how far he has come. That failure becomes a starting point for his next effort proving that failure is not final. Failure is the hallmark of the success you worked for.

Challenge

Confidence is contagious and so is a lack of it. It affects and spreads through every area of our life and every sphere of influence. Remember: if you lack confidence, so will those around you. Why do we lose confidence? Something may happen to us unexpectedly. Maybe we feel we have failed or we think others are better or more able than we are. Understand that your confidence is your confidence, not theirs. You are the hero in your story, the dream maker in your world. When you develop your confidence, others around you will develop theirs. 

So don't lose your confidence, it will bring you great reward.
